Deborah K. Hommer, known as Deb Hommer, holds the position of Teaching Professor in Business Administration and serves as the Coordinator for the Business Program. Having joined the faculty at Penn State Altoona in August 1998, she has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to business education over nearly three decades. Since May 2000, she has led the Business Program as Coordinator, overseeing its operations and development. Her educational background is strong, with a Bachelor of Science in Business Management earned from The Pennsylvania State University and a Master of Business Administration with a specialization in Information Systems from George Washington University. These qualifications have enabled her to excel in teaching advanced business topics.
Hommer has personally designed and delivered a range of courses essential to the business curriculum, including those on information systems, team-building, business statistics, and project management. These classes emphasize practical skills vital for modern business professionals. In recognition of her pedagogical excellence, her ENTR 440 course was selected for inclusion on the Penn State Accessibility Wall of Fame, acknowledging its outstanding accessibility features. Professionally, she received a promotion to Associate Teaching Professor effective July 1, 2021, within the Division of Business, Engineering, and Information Sciences and Technology. Additionally, Hommer plays a key role as an academic advisor in the Smeal College of Business advising network, providing guidance to students pursuing business degrees across Penn State campuses. She coordinates both the B.S. and A.S. in Business Administration programs, ensuring they meet high academic standards and prepare students for successful careers. Through her multifaceted contributions, Hommer has left a lasting impact on business education at Penn State.
