Dr Deen Sanders is an Honorary Professor of Practice in the School of Law and Justice, part of the College of Human and Social Futures at the University of Newcastle, Australia. As a proud Worimi man and Giparr (cultural leader), he brings extensive expertise in governance, law, lore, and leadership to his academic appointment. Holding doctoral qualifications, he was awarded the Order of Australia Medal (OAM) in 2017 for service to public administration and professional standards, recognizing his role as Chief Executive Officer of the NSW Professional Standards Council and other contributions. With over 30 years of experience in regulation, government, and corporate environments, Dr Sanders has held senior positions as a commercial executive, policy maker, regulator, and thought leader across academic, regulatory, and commercial sectors.
Currently serving as Lead Partner for Deloitte: Integrity within Deloitte Access Economics, Dr Sanders advises financial institutions, corporations, and governments on trust, ethics, accountability, market performance, and sustainable growth. He previously led as the inaugural CEO of the Financial Adviser Standards and Ethics Authority (FASEA) and CEO/Commissioner of the Professional Standards Authority, overseeing Australia's national system for professional standards. Appointed Australia's Chief Professionalist in 2021 by the Australian Council of Professions, he continues to influence policy and strategy. Dr Sanders is Co-Chair of the World Economic Forum's Global Future Council on Natural Capital and a Board Advisor and Cultural Governance Advisor at the Australian Sustainable Finance Institute, embedding First Nations leadership and Indigenous knowledges in sustainable finance, regulatory design, and systems change. His work emphasizes integrating Indigenous systems knowledge, culture, and science into solutions for climate change, space law, economics, and ethics, positioning him as a key figure in bridging Indigenous perspectives with contemporary global challenges.
