Derar Al-Daboubi is Assistant Professor of International Commercial Law and Maritime Law at the British University in Dubai. He holds a PhD in International Commercial Law and Maritime Law from Royal Holloway, University of London, an LLM with distinction from Mu’tah University in Jordan, and a BA in Law from Mu’tah University. Prior to his appointment at the British University in Dubai, he served as a member of academic staff and Department Head of Private Law at the Faculty of Law, Al-Ahliyya Amman University in Jordan. Earlier in his career, he worked as a general prosecutor at the Judiciary Council and Ministry of Interior in Jordan and gained expertise in peacekeeping and investigation at the United Nations. He has acted as internal examiner and supervisor for the LLM programme at Al-Ahliyya Amman University.
His research focuses on international commercial law and maritime law, with publications addressing topics such as the transfer of property in goods sold while transported on the high seas, the efficacy of UAE legislation in regulating maritime carrier liability in automated shipping, interpreting Himalaya clauses under multimodal carriage, and the legal framework of negotiability of bills of lading under Kuwaiti maritime law. He has authored more than fifteen scholarly works in international peer-reviewed journals and presented at numerous conferences including the Annual Maritime Law and Policy Conference at City, University of London. Al-Daboubi serves as a reviewer for several SCOPUS-indexed journals and is a member of the London Universities Maritime Law and Policy Group and the China-Europe Commercial Collaboration Association.
