Derek Chu is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Allergy and Clinical Immunology within the Department of Medicine at McMaster University, with a joint appointment in the Department of Health Research Methods, Evidence, and Impact. He holds MD, PhD, and FRCPC credentials in Internal Medicine as well as Pediatric and Adult Clinical Immunology and Allergy, all obtained from McMaster University. As a Clinician Scientist, Dr. Chu directs the challenge clinic for allergy diagnosis, research, and treatment at McMaster University Medical Centre. He also serves as Director of Evidence in Allergy and as Food and Drug Allergy Fellowship Director. In 2025, he was named CIHR Implementation Science Chair in Human Development, Child and Youth Health. Dr. Chu is an Affiliate of the Lungs & Chest program at the Research Institute of St. Joe’s Hamilton and a member of the GRADE working group. He serves on the Joint Task Force for Allergy Practice Parameters and participates in multiple international initiatives to improve outcomes in allergy and immunology. His research focuses on food allergy, anaphylaxis, and evidence synthesis through clinical trials, observational studies, systematic reviews, and meta-analyses, including leadership of projects such as TRADE, TITAN, SHAPE, and PISCES. Dr. Chu collaborates with international partners and contributes to guidelines development for organizations including the World Health Organization, AAAAI/ACAAI, EAACI, and the World Allergy Organization.
