Desmond Grant is a Principal Lecturer at Portmore Community College, where he has served as Head of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science since September 1997. His career in academia spans more than 28 years, dedicated to mathematics and computer science education within Jamaica's community college system. Desmond Grant possesses qualifications including an MSc, BSc, and Diploma in Education (DipEd), supporting his leadership and instructional responsibilities in the department.
Desmond Grant has contributed significantly to curriculum validation for the Council of Community Colleges of Jamaica (CCCJ). He validated programs such as the Associate of Applied Science in Applied Computer Engineering Technology (2021), Associate of Science in Information Technology (2021-V-2.1), Associate of Science in Management Information Systems (2021), B.Sc in Information Technology (2021), and B.Sc in Applied Computer Science (2021). These efforts help maintain high standards in technical education offerings. Furthermore, in April 2025, as Head of the Computer Studies Department, he participated in a student-led initiative providing laptops to enhance digital access for students at Portmore Community College.
