About Devendrasinh

Prof. (Dr.) Devendrasinh Jhala serves as Professor in the Department of Zoology, Biomedical Technology, Human Genetics and Wildlife Biology & Conservation at Gujarat University, Ahmedabad, India. He earned his Ph.D., M.Phil., M.Sc., and B.Sc. degrees. His academic career at Gujarat University began in 2003 as Project Assistant and Project Associate, followed by appointment as Assistant Professor in 2005, Associate Professor in 2017, and Professor in 2020. Jhala's research specializes in cytogenetics, molecular biology, and toxicology, encompassing the genotoxic and oxidative stress effects of environmental toxicants including fluoride, arsenic, lead, cadmium, and the herbicide 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid. His studies investigate ameliorative interventions using natural antioxidants such as melatonin, curcumin, and Carica papaya leaf extract. Additional foci include molecular mechanisms of hidradenitis suppurativa involving gamma-secretase gene mutations, methylome dysregulation, and long non-coding RNAs; recurrent pregnancy loss through array comparative genomic hybridization; limb girdle muscular dystrophy founder mutations; probiotic safety assessments; and biogenic nanoparticle synthesis from marine fungi.

With 58 publications and over 1,012 citations documented on Google Scholar, Jhala has significantly influenced toxicology and biomedical genetics. Key publications feature 'Biogenic synthesis of silver nanoparticles mediated by the consortium comprising the marine fungal filtrates of Penicillium oxalicum and Fusarium hainanense along with their antimicrobial, antioxidant, larvicidal and anticancer potency' (Journal of Applied Microbiology, 2022); 'Melatonin ameliorates 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid induced testicular steroidogenesis upset in mice: An in vivo and in silico study' (Toxicology International, 2022); 'Meta-analysis of endometrial transcriptome data reveals novel molecular targets for recurrent implantation failure' (Journal of Assisted Reproduction and Genetics, 2024); and 'Deregulated Long Non-Coding RNAs (lncRNA) as Promising Biomarkers in Hidradenitis Suppurativa' (Journal of Clinical Medicine, 2024). He has earned multiple accolades for research presentations, including Best Oral Presentation at Gujarat University in 2018, Best Poster Presentations at PDPU Gandhinagar in 2017, KSKV Kachchh University in 2016, Mysore in 2014, and Banaras Hindu University and ATIRA Ahmedabad in 2003.
