Associate Professor Diep Nguyen is an Associate Professor of Leadership of Human Resource Management in the Newcastle Business School at the University of Newcastle, Australia. Originally from Vietnam, she embarked on her PhD journey at Auckland University of Technology in New Zealand, earning her Doctor of Philosophy. Her academic career has taken her across several countries, including Vietnam, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and Australia. She serves as the Program Convenor for the Master of Human Resource Management and the Graduate Certificate in Human Resource Management. As part of the Employee Relations and HR Management group, she contributes to advancing knowledge in human resource practices.
Dr. Nguyen's teaching and research focus is on strategic human resource management, the dark side of leadership, interpersonal relationships at work, and individual well-being. These topics align with her interest in understanding human functioning, attitudes, and behaviours. Her research specializations include dark side of leadership, quantitative methodology, strategic human resource management, stress and well-being, and workplace mistreatment. Fields of research allocation: leadership (30%), human resources management (30%), organisational behaviour (40%). Her scholarly contributions have been featured in esteemed peer-reviewed journals such as Work & Stress, Public Management Review, The International Journal of Human Resource Management, and Asia Pacific Journal of Management. Key publications include "Determinants of the willingness to report unethical behavior" (International Public Management Journal, 2025), "The interactional effects of contextual and individual factors on work–home enrichment" (Personnel Review, 2025), "Abusive supervision and turnover intention among public servants: the roles of psychological distress and person-organization fit" (Public Management Review, 2024), "Boundaries of ethical leadership in mitigating workplace bullying: the moderation effect of team power distance orientation" (Public Management Review, 2024), "Job satisfaction and public service motivation in Australian nurses: the effects of abusive supervision and workplace bullying" (The International Journal of Human Resource Management, 2023), "Workplace bullying as an organisational issue: Aligning climate and leadership" (Work & Stress, 2022), and book chapters such as "Organizational power and politics in Asia" (2023) and "Laissez-faire leadership behaviors in public sector in Vietnam" (2017).
