Dr. Donald Cragen serves as Professor of Sport Management and Chair of the H. Allen Ryan School of Business at Thomas College in Waterville, Maine. He has been a business professor at the institution for more than 16 years, where he teaches upper-level undergraduate and graduate courses across multiple business disciplines. Prior to his academic career at Thomas College, Cragen held diverse professional roles outside of academia, including Primary Fund Accountant, Collegiate Athletic Director, Entrepreneur, and Corporate Governance Expert. These experiences inform his practical approach to education and leadership in the School of Business.
Cragen holds an extensive array of advanced degrees and certifications. He earned a Bachelor of Science in accounting and finance from Salem State University, a Master of Science in sports medicine from Illinois State University, a Master of Science in Management and Leadership with a concentration in project management from Purdue University Global, a Master of Business Administration from Thomas College, and a Doctor of Sport Management from the United States Sports Academy. Complementing these, he possesses a Graduate Certificate in Innovation Engineering from the University of Maine, a Master Certification in Innovation Engineering, Graduate Certifications in Design Thinking and Business Analytics, and additional post-graduate certifications in business analytics, artificial intelligence, and machine learning. His current field of study and research focuses on Large Language Models in Artificial Intelligence and No-Code Machine Learning. Cragen maintains professional affiliations with the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA – ATC/L), Registered Massage Therapist (RMT, IL), EMT-I (MA-retired), Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS, retired), North American Society for Sport Management (NASSM), and Federation of American Risk Arbitrators (FARA). He also serves on the Editorial Board of Exercise for Men Magazine. Known for his innovative teaching style, dry sense of humor, and commitment to preparing future business leaders, Cragen leads the award-winning H. Allen Ryan School of Business.
