About Donna

Donna Oliver is the Provost and Dean of the College and Martha Peterson Professor for Distinguished Faculty Service (Russian) at Beloit College in the Department of Modern Languages & Literatures. She earned a B.A. in Russian and International Studies from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, an M.A. in Slavic Languages and Literatures from Northwestern University, and a Ph.D. in Slavic Languages and Literatures from Northwestern University. In her leadership role, Oliver oversees the college's academic program, faculty growth and support, student life, and overall student experience, with a deep commitment to the Beloit College community. Her career at the institution includes service as interim co-provost, associate dean of the college, accreditation liaison officer, chair of the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures, and special assistant to the provost.

Oliver's research specializations encompass 19th- and 20th-century Russian literature, literary culture, and visual arts. Key publications include 'From Pin-Up to Paragon: Maksim Gorky’s Evolving Image on Russian Picture Postcards' (2025), 'Russian Full Circle: A First-Year Russian Textbook' co-authored with Edie Furniss (2011), 'Theatre without the Theatre: Proletkult at the Gas Factory' (1994), 'Parodic Layering in Dostoevsky's "Skvernyi Anekdot"' (2003), and 'Gambling with a Constant Heart: Sonya’s Inevitable Loss' (2014). Holding the Martha Peterson Professorship recognizes her distinguished contributions to faculty service. Through these scholarly and administrative efforts, she advances Beloit College's mission of innovative liberal arts education.
