Doug Parry is a Professor Emeritus of Communication at the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA), having served as a Professor in the Department of Journalism and Public Communication within the College of Arts and Sciences. His long-standing career at UAA and its predecessor institutions spans more than four decades, beginning as an instructor of speech communication at Anchorage Community College in 1982. Parry earned his Master of Arts degree from West Virginia University in 1980, marking the foundation of his academic journey in communication.
Throughout his tenure, Parry made significant contributions to UAA's academic programs and community. He submitted the AY2022-2023 Biennial Academic Assessment Report for the Communication BA program, demonstrating his commitment to maintaining high educational standards. In 2009, he received a UAA Faculty and Staff Longevity Award, recognizing his extended dedication to the institution. Parry participated in key university initiatives, including efforts to serve working degree seekers alongside colleagues from various departments and recognition as part of the Textbook Affordability Heroes for adopting open educational resources. He also served as a respondent for a paper panel at the Western States Communication Association conference in Anchorage in 2010. In December 2025, during UAA's Fall Commencement, Parry was awarded Professor Emeritus status, honoring his enduring impact on teaching, service, and the communication discipline at UAA.
