Dr. E. Balasubramanian serves as Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Head of the Centre for International Affairs at the National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research (NITTTR), Chennai, under the Ministry of Education, Government of India. He specializes in research areas including Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, Additive Manufacturing, Robotics, and Control. Balasubramanian holds a PhD in Robotics and Control from Concordia University, Montreal, Canada (2007-2011), with a thesis on Modeling and Robust Control of Two Collaborative Robot Manipulators Handling a Flexible Object. He earned a Master of Engineering in Engineering Design from PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore (2000-2002), and a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering from Government College of Engineering, Tirunelveli (1996-2000). His academic career includes serving as Associate Professor at NITTTR Chennai since June 2023, prior to which he was Associate Professor at Vel Tech Rangarajan Dr. Sagunthala R&D Institute of Science and Technology, Chennai (2011-2023), Lecturer at Vellore Institute of Technology, Vellore (2006-2007), and teaching and research roles at AUFRG Institute for CAD/CAM, Chennai, and Concordia University.
Balasubramanian has received several honors, including the GATE 2000 Scholarship, National Overseas Scholarship (2006) for PhD studies abroad, Dedicated Faculty Award from Vel Tech University (2013), Aegis Graham Bell Award for Best Innovative Business Model (2014), and multiple prizes in national and international competitions such as First Prize in GRIDTECH 2013 (shared with IIT Kanpur), Best Project Award in VISAI 2015, Second Prize in Future Ideas Foundation competition (2015), and First and Third Prizes in VISAI 2017. His key publications encompass works like 'Robust Control Of Collaborative Manipulators -Flexible Object System' in International Journal of Advanced Robotic Systems (2013), 'Practical Flapping Mechanisms for 20cm-span Micro Air Vehicles' in International Journal of Micro Air Vehicle (2015), and 'Design of an amphibious vehicle for unmanned mission in water quality monitoring using IoT' in Sensors (2019). He has led numerous funded projects, including Design and Development of Autonomous Amphibious Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (DST-GITA), Robotic Assisted Rapid Prototyping (DST-SERB), and UAV Based In-situ Measurements for Water Quality Mapping (DST-SERB-EQUITY). With over 960 citations on Google Scholar, his contributions advance UAV applications, robotics control, and additive manufacturing in engineering education and research.
