His Excellency Prof. Ebrahim Al Hajri is the President of Khalifa University of Science and Technology and Professor of Practice in Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering. He brings more than a decade of extensive experience in management, engineering, and higher education. Earlier, he served as Senior Vice-President of Support Services at Khalifa University, leading operational plans, budget, and administrative and financial strategy. Prof. Al Hajri joined The Petroleum Institute as a faculty member in 2009 after earning his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Maryland, College Park. He received his Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Colorado, Denver, and his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Arizona. In 2012, he was appointed Director of External Relations and Collaborations at The Petroleum Institute. In 2018, he became Director of Continuing Education at Khalifa University while serving as Vice Chancellor of Emirates College for Advanced Education, where he helped transform the institution into a leading postgraduate college and increased research funding and output by three-fold. He also led strategic improvements in service automation, institutional data dashboards, budget utilization, and procurement operations.
Prof. Al Hajri is a recipient of several awards, including the Best Service Award in 2012 at The Petroleum Institute, the Rashid Award for Scientific Outstanding in 2010, the Special Recognition Award of ADNOC HSE Awards in 2010, first place in the PI Sustainability Award in 2010, and appreciation for ASHRAE funding and grant-in-aid. He is a former President of the ASHRAE Falcon Chapter in the UAE and has served on its board of governors since 2010. He is a member and chair of several technical committees in ASHRAE and ASME. Prof. Al Hajri has authored articles in recognized journals and conference proceedings, organized workshops and conferences, and served as a reviewer for journals in thermal-fluids and energy systems. His research interests include conventional and micro-channel mass/heat exchangers design, micro reactors, and energy efficiency and recovery. He has worked on projects such as evaluation of heat transfer and pressure drop of enhanced tubes, external fouling of a fin-fan heat exchanger, waste heat recovery using double absorption systems, and exploration of geothermal heat diffusion mechanisms. He has taught courses including Advanced Convection Heat Transfer, Advanced Heat Transfer, Applied Thermodynamics, Concentrated Solar Power and Thermal Energy Storage, Fluid Mechanics, Heat Transfer, and Thermodynamics.
