Eduardo Augusto Fernandes Nilson holds a bachelor's degree and specialization in Biological Sciences from the Universidade de Brasília (UnB) and a doctorate in Global Health and Sustainability from the Universidade de São Paulo (USP). He serves as a researcher affiliated with the Center for Epidemiological Research in Nutrition and Health (Nupens) at the Faculty of Public Health of USP and with the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz) in Brasília. Nilson is also a Specialist in Public Policies and Government Management, currently exercising this role at the Ministry of Health. His professional experience centers on food and nutritional surveillance, monitoring and evaluation of nutrition and health policies, and health promotion, with emphasis on the prevention and control of chronic diseases associated with diet as well as macro- and microsimulation models of health and economic impacts of policies.

Nilson has contributed to research on the health effects of ultra-processed foods, including studies modeling their association with premature mortality and cardiovascular outcomes in Brazil. His work supports evidence-based approaches to nutrition policy, such as front-of-package labeling and regulation of food environments. He maintains affiliations with USP's Nupens program and Fiocruz, where he engages in teaching and research activities related to food, nutrition, and culture.
