Dr. Eliani Boton is a Lecturer: Academic Development (AU Course Development) in Teaching and Learning Innovation at Adelaide University. She holds a PhD in Educational Technologies, with her doctoral research centered on improving student retention in online education. This work involved qualitative case studies with online lecturers from six countries, exploring key factors such as cultural issues, student motivation, Learning Management Systems, and effective online pedagogies to enhance engagement in digital learning environments. An Advance HE Senior Fellow, Boton specializes in creating blended and fully online learning experiences that promote inclusive, high-quality programs combining traditional and innovative teaching methods to foster student success. Her expertise extends to curriculum design, digital learning, assessment design, academic writing, and adult education in online and blended settings.
Prior to her current role, Boton served as an Educational Designer at Monash University, providing advice and design support for unit revitalization, constructive alignment, and authentic assessments, earning the Dean's Award for Innovation in Learning and Teaching from the Business School and the DVCE Role Model Award for Educational Design. At Queensland University of Technology, she acted as an Online Learning Advisor for fully online postgraduate courses, including the Graduate Certificate in Education (Innovative Learning Design) and the Master of Education. She also contributed to Charles Darwin University's Whole of Community Engagement initiative, partnering with remote Aboriginal communities to advance culturally respectful and community-driven educational reforms. Boton's research interests include supporting academics in curriculum development, integrating technology to build engaging, accessible, and efficient learning environments, and examining the role of AI in future education to bolster teaching practices and student outcomes. A notable publication is her co-authored paper, 'The Whole of Community Engagement initiative: Interculturality in remote Aboriginal education,' published in the Australian Journal of Indigenous Education in 2022.
