About Elisa
Professor Elisa Donati is an Adjunct Professor at the Institute of Neuroinformatics, University of Zurich and ETH Zürich. Her research focuses on neuromorphic closed-loop systems, with interests in designing neuromorphic circuits suited for interfacing with the nervous system to build hybrid artificial and biological neural processing systems. She contributes to the development of neuromorphic hardware and software systems that mimic biological brain functions for applications in medicine and robotics.
Professor Donati collaborates on research projects involving neural bionics and neuroprosthetics, including work with researchers at Chalmers University of Technology on decoding phantom limb movements from intraneural recordings using spiking neural networks. This research, published in 2026 in Nature Communications, demonstrates high-accuracy interpretation of leg movement intentions in above-knee amputees. Her contributions emphasize aligning computational models with biological neural communication for efficient, low-power systems applicable to prosthetic control and sensory feedback.
