Ellen Kim is an Associate Professor of Management in the Mihaylo College of Business and Economics at California State University, Fullerton. She holds a Ph.D. in hospitality and service management from The Pennsylvania State University, an M.S. in hospitality management from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Kyung Hee University in South Korea. Her international background, including time spent in Korea, Japan, the United States, and France, sparked her interest in tourism and hospitality through early work experiences in hotels. At CSUF, Kim advanced from assistant professor to tenured associate professor and serves as director of the Center for Entertainment and Hospitality Management, facilitating connections between students and industry opportunities in these sectors. She teaches in management concentrations, including entertainment and hospitality management, and emphasizes the strong business foundation provided by the college’s curriculum in accounting, finance, marketing, and operations.
Kim’s research specializations encompass consumer behavior in service settings, electronic word-of-mouth, corporate social responsibility, cross-cultural issues, service quality management, and service innovations. Notable publications include “What managers need to know about quiet quitting” co-authored with Min Choi and Jungmin Seo in Industrial Management (2023), “Connecting new tech to existing operations” with Jennifer Chandler in Industrial Management (2016), and a study on consumer processing of online hotel reviews co-authored with Chung Hun Lee in the Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Technology, Vol. 6, Issue 2 (2016). She received the 2021-2022 Scholar Award from the College of Business and Economics and a Junior/Senior Faculty Research Grant for her work on service duration and price mismatch. Kim serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Hospitality & Tourism Research, contributing to scholarly discourse in hospitality and management fields.
