Dr. Elliott Logan is a Lecturer in Film, Screen and Culture within the School of Media, Film and Journalism at Monash University, Faculty of Arts. Prior to joining Monash, he held the position of Lecturer in Media Communication at The University of Queensland. Logan is the author of the book Breaking Bad and Dignity: Unity and Fragmentation in the Serial Television Drama, published by Palgrave Macmillan in 2016. He serves as Associate Editor of Series: International Journal of TV Serial Narratives since 2017 and joined the editorial board of Movie: A Journal of Film Criticism in 2024. His scholarly contributions appear in leading journals such as Screen, Critical Studies in Television, and New Review of Film and Television Studies, as well as in prominent edited collections on television aesthetics and screen performance. These include Television Aesthetics and Style (2013), Close-Up: Great Cinematic Performances, Vol. 1: America (2017), Television Performance (2019), Cognition, Emotion, and Aesthetics in Contemporary Serial Television (2021), and Moments of Television: Sound/Image (2022).
Logan's research specializations encompass film, television, and digital media, with focused interests in Television Studies, Film Studies, Film Criticism, Seriality, and Performance. Key publications feature chapters such as 'Autism, Performance, and Sociality: Isolated Attention in The Social Network' (2022) in Autism in Film and Television: On the Island, 'Silence and Faces in Mad Men' (2022) in Sound/Image: Moments in Television, 'Seriality and expressiveness in Mad Men' (2021) in Cognition, Emotion, and Aesthetics in Contemporary Serial Television, 'Faces of Allegiance in Homeland: Performance and the Provisional in Serial Television Drama' (2019) in Television Performance, and 'Kristen Stewart in Clouds of Sils Maria' (2018) in Close-Up: Great Cinematic Performances Volume 1: America. He is currently completing a monograph on screen performance in serial television drama for Rutgers University Press and developing projects on screen casting and television platform interfaces. Logan accepts PhD students and contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goal 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions.
