Rate My Professor Emiliano Roia

Emiliano Roia is a Senior Lecturer in the Discipline of Architecture at the UWA School of Design, University of Western Australia. He studied Architecture at La Sapienza University in Rome, Italy. Roia co-founded the architecture studio MORQ in Rome in 2001 with Matteo Monteduro and Andrea Quagliola, serving as a founding partner. His early career included positions as design architect and digital design coordinator at Nemesi Studio (1997-2000) and Brancalab (2000-2002) in Italy. Between 2003 and 2006, he was studio coordinator for various courses at the University of Roma La Sapienza Faculty of Architecture and Product Design, the European Institute of Design Masters in Interior Design, and other programs.

Since February 2007, Roia has held academic appointments at the University of Western Australia, starting as Lecturer in the Faculty of Architecture, Landscape and Visual Arts and advancing to Senior Lecturer in the UWA Design School. His research interests lie in architectural design and architectural practice, with 58 research outputs primarily consisting of peer-reviewed designs. Key projects include House in City Beach (2024), National Memorial for Victims and Survivors of Institutional Child Sexual Abuse (2023), Further Hotel (2026), Park House (2025), and Altana (2027), developed in collaboration with Andrea Quagliola and Matteo Monteduro. As part of MORQ, he oversees projects such as River House (East Fremantle, WA), Casa del Sol (Busselton, WA), Karri House (Margaret River, WA), LC Residence (Dalkeith, WA), and several apartment renovations in Rome, including Baccina Suites and OMO industrial refurbishment. Roia has also contributed as guest teacher from 2013 to 2017 and creative director in 2018 at the Lab-A international design and landscape workshop curated by Pritzker Prize-winning RCR Arquitectes.
