Rate My Professor Emily Chase

Emily Chase is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biology at the University of Winnipeg, where she joined the faculty in 2025. As a microbiologist and virologist, her research centers on aquatic viruses, with a focus on their diversity, evolution, and function in aquatic environments. She is the first researcher to investigate algal viruses in Lake Winnipeg, examining the dynamics between viruses and algae in this major freshwater system. Her laboratory investigates host-virus interactions, contributing to broader understanding of microbial ecology in coastal and limnological settings.

Dr. Chase holds a PhD from Aix-Marseille University and an MSc from Acadia University. She has been recognized with MSCA and DOC2AMU fellowships. Her scholarly work appears in academic publications, and she maintains an active research program supported in part by NSERC funding for projects on the evolutionary and ecological roles of aquatic viruses. Dr. Chase serves as principal investigator of the Chase Lab, advancing studies on viral impacts in aquatic ecosystems.
