Rate My Professor Emmanuel Akwar

Emmanuel Akwar, DHA, is currently serving as Assistant Professor of Practice in the Department of Biology, Health, and the Environment at the University of Texas at San Antonio, located within the College of Sciences. His academic credentials include a Doctor of Healthcare Administration degree obtained from Virginia University of Lynchburg. Additionally, he is a two-time graduate of UTSA, having completed his Bachelor of Science degree in 1999 and his Master of Science degree in 2001. Akwar's journey at UTSA began shortly after his relocation from the Republic of Cameroon to San Antonio in 1996. He has been engaged in full-time teaching at the university since 2001, demonstrating a long-term dedication to higher education in the field of health sciences.

Prior to his current position, Akwar served as Lecturer III in the Department of Biology. His teaching portfolio features courses such as Biochemistry and General Physiology. He specializes in anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, and genetics. Akwar was selected as one of the inaugural members of UTSA's Advancing Next-Gen Faculty Leadership Fellows Program for the 2019-2020 cohort. This program placed him in the Office of Inclusive Excellence, where he collaborated with mentor Vice President Myron Anderson. Their joint efforts concentrated on the creation of tools and resources designed to increase cultural sensitivity and awareness throughout the UTSA campus. Particular attention was given to aspects of classroom management and the enhancement of faculty-student collaborations and interactions. Furthermore, a primary objective of Akwar's fellowship was the development of a dedicated website. This online resource is intended to provide information on the cultural norms that guide the different ethnic groups and countries of origin represented in the diverse UTSA community. Through these endeavors, Emmanuel Akwar continues to contribute to the academic environment at UTSA, particularly in promoting an inclusive setting for health science students and faculty.
