Emory Serviss serves as Senior Lecturer in the Department of Marketing at Auburn University's Harbert College of Business. He earned his PhD in Marketing from the University of South Alabama in 2022, an MBA from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 1996, and a BS from Jacksonville State University in 1995. Bringing over two decades of industry experience to academia, Serviss previously held senior marketing roles at Fortune 500 companies and advertising agencies, focusing on digital marketing and strategy. In his teaching, he prioritizes relevance, engagement, and mentorship through real-world projects and experiential learning in both face-to-face and online courses, preparing students for evolving marketing and sales landscapes. Recognized as an award-winning educator, he received the McCartney Teaching Award from the Harbert College of Business and was a finalist for the Lowder Teaching Award in 2019. Serviss has also served as Marketing Department Program Champion, faculty advisor for the American Marketing Association student chapter from 2016 to 2022, and a member of the University Senate Curriculum Committee.
Serviss's research specializations include ethical leadership, sales management, artificial intelligence, social media, B2B marketing, and digital marketing. He is a two-time recipient of the Steven J. Shaw & Joe Hair Best Paper Award from the Society for Marketing Advances, earning the honor in 2020 for research on the role of emotional intelligence in sales communication alignment and in 2023 for examining relational and financial perspectives in B2B supplier relationships. Key publications feature "Ethical Leadership in a Remote Working Context: Implications for Salesperson Well-being and Performance," accepted by the Journal of Personal Selling & Sales Management, with related work published in the Journal of Managerial Psychology and Industrial and Organizational Psychology. In 2025, he co-authored an essay with Mark Gleim in The Conversation on how ethical leadership enhances remote employees' organizational commitment, well-being, and performance, based on studies of salespeople from 2021 to 2024. His contributions extend to university service and professional development, including Stukent Professor of the Month recognition.
