Professor Eran Segal is a Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Applied Mathematics at the Weizmann Institute of Science. He earned a B.Sc. in Computer Science summa cum laude from Tel Aviv University and a Ph.D. in Computer Science and Genetics from Stanford University. His research focuses on developing quantitative models for gene regulation, computational and systems biology, nutrition, genetics, the microbiome, and their effects on health and disease. Segal heads a multidisciplinary team applying machine learning, probabilistic modeling, and analysis of high-throughput genomic and clinical data to advance personalized nutrition and personalized medicine.
Segal has published over 200 papers and is a highly cited researcher. He received the 2007 ISCB Overton Prize and the 2007 EMBO Young Investigator Award, among other honors. He has served as an advisor to the government of Israel on COVID-19 modeling and strategies. Segal is a Professor of Computer Science whose work centers on computational biology approaches to human health.
