Erin Mason is an Associate Professor of School Counseling and Co-Program Coordinator for Counselor Education and Practice in the Department of Counseling and Psychological Services within Georgia State University’s College of Education and Human Development. She holds an M.Ed., Ed.S., and Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Practice, all earned from Georgia State University. Before transitioning to higher education, Mason worked as a school counselor for 13 years in public schools. Her academic career includes prior faculty positions, and she joined Georgia State University around 2017. Mason coordinates the Ph.D. program in Counselor Education and Practice and contributes to the M.Ed. program in School Counseling.
Mason’s research specializations encompass school counseling programs, professional identity development, action research, innovation and technology in counseling, leadership practices, and equity-driven approaches including anti-racism training. Her scholarship, cited over 1,750 times, includes key publications such as “An ecological model of professional school counseling” (Journal of Counseling & Development, 2014), “Addressing elementary school teachers’ professional stressors: Practical suggestions for schools and administrators” (Educational Administration Quarterly, 2013), “School counselor educators as educational leaders promoting systemic change” (Professional School Counseling, 2009), “Leadership practices of school counselors” (Professional School Counseling, 2009), and “Integrating RTI With School Counseling Programs: Being a Proactive Professional School Counselor” (Journal of School Counseling, 2012). She authored “101 Solutions for School Counselors and Leaders in Challenging Times” (Corwin Press, 2013) and co-authored “Equity-Driven Leadership in School Counseling: How to Champion Justice for All Students” (Routledge, 2024). Mason received the Outstanding Faculty Teaching Award for Graduate Teaching from the College of Education and Human Development in 2024 and a research grant from the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision in 2021 to examine affinity groups and anti-racism training effectiveness in school counseling preparation. Her work advances systemic change, advocacy, and leadership in school counseling.
