Etienne Vachon-Presseau is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Dental Medicine and Oral Health Sciences at McGill University, where he holds the Canada Research Chair in Chronic Pain (Tier 2). He completed his PhD at Université de Montréal under the supervision of Pierre Rainville, focusing on how stress hormones impact the brain of chronic pain patients. He subsequently completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Northwestern University under the supervision of Vania Apkarian, investigating brain properties that predispose individuals to the development of chronic pain as well as the brain and psychological determinants of placebo response in randomized controlled trials.
Dr. Vachon-Presseau’s research centers on pain and neuroscience, with particular emphasis on chronic pain mechanisms explored through neuroimaging and related approaches. In 2026, he received the Canadian Pain Society Early Career Award in recognition of his contributions to the field.
