Evan Lucas serves as Associate Professor and Assistant Department Head in the Department of Technology and Occupational Sciences at Northern Michigan University, where he teaches in the Construction Management program. A Marquette native and 2011 graduate of NMU with a Bachelor of Science in Construction Management, Lucas began his career working as a skilled laborer and carpenter before advancing to managerial roles. He served as Project Engineer with Whiting-Turner Contracting Company in Baltimore, Maryland, managing municipal projects such as wastewater treatment facilities, pump stations, transfer stations, and city schools, as well as prototyping initiatives for NFL infrastructure grants with the Baltimore Ravens. After earning a Master of Public Administration from Villanova University in 2015, he relocated to Michigan and worked as Project Manager with Rockford Construction in Grand Rapids, focusing on the education market sector and small healthcare projects. During this period, he also coached hockey as head coach for East Grand Rapids High School for three years. In 2017, Lucas joined NMU faculty, bringing his industry expertise to the classroom, and holds a Health Care Construction Certification.
At NMU, Lucas co-wrote and now directs the interdisciplinary Indoor Agriculture associate degree program, launched in fall 2020, serving as program director and lead adviser. His leadership was recognized with the 2020-21 Faculty Emerging Leadership Award. He co-chairs the Strategic Planning and Budgeting Committee, sits on the SISU Innovation Center Committee, coordinates the U.P. Construction Skills Challenge, and liaises for Construction Management Career Fair activities. Lucas maintains active involvement in university, professional, and Marquette community committees and boards. Additionally, he owns a consulting firm that assists companies with project management activities and processes. Emphasizing hands-on learning, creative problem-solving, collaboration, and relationship-building, Lucas enhances NMU's award-winning Construction Management program through his practical experience and commitment to student development.
