Fabricio Oliveira serves as Adjunct Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Systems Analysis at Aalto University School of Science. He earned his doctoral degree in Engineering and Technology from Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro on 26 October 2012. Affiliated with Aalto since 2011, previously holding the position of Associate Professor of Mathematics and Operations Research until at least 2021, he also maintains an adjunct role in Operations Research and Systems Analysis. Additionally, Oliveira is Senior Optimisation Advisor at Houston Analytics Oy since 1 December 2018. An international expert with experience in Finland, Brazil, the United States, and Australia, he teaches mathematical optimisation to technology students, employing real-life examples to illustrate complex concepts interactively.
Oliveira's research centers on analytics and operations research, with emphasis on predictive and prescriptive analytics, optimisation, and mathematical programming. His work develops decision support frameworks using optimisation under uncertainty and simulation techniques for real-world applications in supply chain management, production planning, renewable energy production, infrastructure expansion planning, healthcare, humanitarian logistics, and the oil and gas sector. Specific interests include stochastic programming, robust optimization, decomposition methods, and parallelization. In 2021, he received the Outstanding Teacher of the Year award from the Finnish Foundation for Technology Promotion. He leads projects such as Future-ready blood services (2026–2027), EasyDR (2022–2024), and others. Oliveira has hosted numerous academic visitors, including Tarley Fantazzini, Flávio Lim-Apo, and Luana M. Carrilho. His 64 research outputs address UN Sustainable Development Goals including Good Health and Well-being, Affordable and Clean Energy, Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, Sustainable Cities and Communities, Responsible Consumption and Production, and Climate Action. Key publications include 'A two-stage stochastic programming model for inventory management in the blood supply chain' (2017), 'Contingency-Constrained Unit Commitment with n-K Security Criterion: a Robust Optimization Approach' (2011), 'Proactive Transshipment in the Blood Supply Chain: a Stochastic Programming Approach' (2019), 'A novel strong duality-based reformulation for trilevel infrastructure models in energy systems development' (2025, Journal of the Operational Research Society), and 'Data-driven robust optimization for pipeline scheduling under flow rate uncertainty' (2025, Computers & Chemical Engineering).
