Rate My Professor Fahad Shahbaz Khan

Fahad Shahbaz Khan is a Full Professor and Deputy Department Chair of Computer Vision at Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. He also holds a faculty position as Universitetslektor and Docent at the Computer Vision Laboratory, Linköping University, Sweden. Professor Khan received an M.Sc. degree in Intelligent Systems Design from Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden, and a Ph.D. degree in Computer Vision from the Autonomous University of Barcelona, Spain, along with a Master’s degree in Artificial Intelligence and Computer Vision from the same institution. Prior to joining MBZUAI, he served as a postdoctoral fellow from 2012 to 2014 and a research fellow from 2014 to 2018 at Linköping University, where he was awarded the Docent title in computer vision in 2018. He previously worked as a lead scientist at the Inception Institute of Artificial Intelligence (IIAI) in Abu Dhabi.

Professor Khan’s research interests encompass a wide range of topics in computer vision, including object recognition, detection, segmentation, tracking, and action recognition, with a particular focus on learning visual recognition models with limited human supervision. He has achieved top ranks in international challenges such as the Visual Object Tracking (VOT) challenge and received awards including the best paper award in the computer vision track at IEEE ICPR 2016, along with other best paper recognitions at CVPR, MICCAI, and ACCV. He has published over 150 reviewed conference papers, journal articles, and book contributions, accumulating tens of thousands of citations. Professor Khan serves as a senior program committee member for major conferences including CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, and NeurIPS, will serve as General Chair for ACCV 2028, and is an Associate Editor for journals such as IEEE TPAMI and CVIU. He has received the Prestigious Swedish Research Council grant.
