Rate My Professor Felicity McCormack

Felicity McCormack is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Earth, Atmosphere and Environment at Monash University. She earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Quantitative Marine Sciences from the University of Tasmania in 2015, with her thesis examining the modelling of El Niño-Southern Oscillation using contemporary diagnostic frameworks. McCormack also holds a Diploma of Quantitative Marine Sciences awarded in the same year. Her research centres on predicting Antarctica’s future contribution to sea level rise through the application of ice sheet models, geophysical observations, and theoretical approaches, with particular emphasis on ice sheet dynamics, surface mass balance, and the effects of climate variability and change on the East Antarctic Ice Sheet.

McCormack serves as an ARC DECRA Fellow in Antarctic Research and as a Chief Investigator on the ARC Special Research Initiative Securing Antarctica's Environmental Future. In 2019 she received a Fulbright Postdoctoral Fellowship to conduct research at the University of California, Irvine. She has contributed to peer-reviewed publications including “Antarctic Wide Subglacial Hydrology Modeling” (2025), “Assessing the sensitivity of the Vanderford Glacier, East Antarctica, to basal melt and calving” (2025), “Distinct Central and Eastern Pacific El Niño Influence on Antarctic Surface Mass Balance” (2024), “How Does the Southern Annular Mode Control Surface Melt in East Antarctica?” (2024), and a chapter on “A Review of Bayesian Modelling in Glaciology” (2023). McCormack accepts PhD students interested in ice sheet modelling and Antarctica and maintains expertise aligned with United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 13, 14, and 15.
