Felix Weerakkody serves as a Visiting Consultant in Civil Engineering within the Faculty of Engineering at the Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT) since 2017. His career in civil engineering began with employment on the Mahaweli Development Project from 1974 to 1977. He then worked in the private sector in Sri Lanka from 1977 to 1989. From 1990 to 1997, he was associated with civil engineering industry practices in Brunei, Australia, and Sumatra, Indonesia. Subsequently, from 1997 to 2016, he was a Senior Lecturer at the Institute of Technology, which later became the University of Technology Brunei.
Weerakkody holds a BSc Eng (Hons) from the University of Ceylon, Peradeniya (1974), an MBA from the Postgraduate Institute of Management, University of Sri Jayawardanepura (1986), and a Graduate Diploma in Structural Engineering from Monash University, Australia (1996). He was also a Visiting Fellow at Loughborough University of Technology, England, from October 1984 to February 1985, under the British Foreign & Commonwealth Office Scholarship. He is a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers (Great Britain) (FICE) and an Honorary Life Fellow of the Institution of Engineers Sri Lanka (FIE). At SLIIT, he contributes to research on construction project management and engineering economics and has supervised student projects including 'Construction Project Risk Management for Performance Improvement: Polgahawela-Pothuhera-Alawwa Integrated Water Supplying Project' and assessments of communication systems in construction projects.
