Rate My Professor Josh Ferris

Joshua Ferris serves as Assistant Lecturer in the Information Systems and Analytics department at Miami University’s Farmer School of Business. He earned a Master of Science in Business Analytics from Miami University in 2021 and a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from the University of York in 2018. Ferris began his academic career at Miami University as an Instructor in August 2021, advancing to Assistant Lecturer in August 2023. He has led the BUS 104 instructional team within the First-Year Integrated Core since 2023 and directed the entire First-Year Integrated Core program from July 2024 through February 2026, overseeing curriculum, budgets, and a team of 23 faculty members for a program enrolling approximately 1,400 students each year.

Ferris specializes in computational thinking, data science, and the integration of generative AI into business education and pedagogy. His contributions include co-authorship of the 2024 paper “How generative AI models such as ChatGPT can be (mis)used in SPC practice, education, and research?” published in Quality Engineering, as well as papers on gamification for professional communication and the application of “Yes, And” to AI in business communication classrooms. He has presented at the Miami AI Symposium, the Original Lilly Conference, and the Undergraduate Consortium Convening. Ferris participates in university governance as a member of the FSB Educational Experience Ad Hoc Committee, the University Senate IT Policy Committee, and multiple FYIC committees. Prior to his full-time academic roles, he worked as Consulting Lead Developer at the University of Cincinnati and held leadership positions at YMCA Camp Kern. Ferris maintains technical expertise in Python, R, SQL, Power BI, Tableau, and related tools for data analysis and visualization.
