About Filipe M.

Filipe M. França is a permanent professor in the Graduate Program in Ecology at Universidade Federal do Pará since 2022. He holds a bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences (2009) and an MRes in Applied Ecology (2012) from the Federal University of Lavras (UFLA). He completed a dual PhD program, earning a PhD in Applied Ecology from UFLA and a PhD in Science of Tropical Environments from Lancaster University in 2015, with research on the ecological impacts of selective logging on insects and associated processes in Brazilian Amazon forests.

Dr. França is also a UKRI Future Leader Fellow and Lecturer in the School of Biological Sciences at the University of Bristol, where he leads the TropEco Lab. His career includes postdoctoral positions at Lancaster University (2016–2018 and 2020–2021), the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (EMBRAPA Amazônia Oriental, 2018–2020), and an academic visitor role at the University of Canterbury. His research focuses on tropical forest biodiversity, ecosystem functioning, conservation biology, and the impacts of human activities and climate events such as droughts and fires, with particular emphasis on insects. He is a co-founder and coordinator of networks including INCT-SinBiAm, PPBio-AmOr, PELD-AmOr, and the TAOCA platform. He has received funding support from agencies including FAPEMIG, CAPES, CNPq, NERC, and UKRI.
