Flavio Manoel Rodrigues da Silva Júnior is Professor Associado III at the Instituto de Ciências Biológicas e da Saúde of Universidade Federal de Alagoas. He previously served as a faculty member at Universidade Federal do Rio Grande for 12 years, where he was a permanent professor and former coordinator of the Programa de Pós-Graduação em Ciências da Saúde at FAMED-FURG and led the research groups in Saúde Ambiental and Ecotoxicologia Terrestre. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Ciências Biológicas from Universidade Federal de Pernambuco (2006), a master’s degree in Ecologia from Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (2008), and a doctorate in Ciências Fisiológicas from Universidade Federal do Rio Grande (2012), including a sandwich doctorate period at the Faculdade de Ciências of Universidade de Lisboa.
His research focuses on toxicologia, saúde ambiental, ecotoxicologia, ecotoxicologia terrestre, poluição, and mudanças climáticas. He is a CNPq Bolsista de Produtividade em Pesquisa at Nível 1D. He has held leadership positions including three terms as president and currently second vice-president of the Sociedade Brasileira de Ecotoxicologia (2025-2027 term), member of the Conselho Fiscal of the Sociedade Brasileira de Toxicologia (2022-2024), second treasurer of the Latin-American Association of Environmental, Experimental and Nanomaterials Toxicology (2019-2022), and titular member of the GT de Meio Ambiente e Mudanças Climáticas of the SBPC.
