About Florentina
Florentina Vişan is a professor emeritus at the University of Bucharest, where she has had a distinguished career in the Department of Oriental Languages within the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literatures. She earned her bachelor's degree in philology with a specialization in Chinese and Romanian from the University of Bucharest in 1971 and completed her doctorate in philology at the same institution in 1995. Her academic progression included roles as assistant in 1978, lecturer, associate professor, and full professor, with emeritus status granted in 2016.
Vișan's research focuses on Chinese linguistics, including syntax and morphology of contemporary and classical Chinese, as well as broader interests in Chinese philosophy, anthropology, and cultural studies. She has authored key works such as Curs de sintaxa limbii chineze contemporane (1984), Sistemul părţilor de vorbire în gramatica chineză (1996), and Gramatica limbii chineze in two volumes on morphology and syntax (1998 and 1999). Additional publications include Prelegeri de Confucianism (2008) and its sequel (2012), along with translations of classical texts like Confucius - Analecte (1995) and modern literature such as Mo Yan's Broaște (2014). She has held leadership positions including head of the Department of Oriental Languages (2000-2011), director of the Center for Chinese Studies (2001-2016), and coordinator of the master's program in Asian Studies (2005-2016). Vișan has supervised numerous doctoral students and contributed to editorial projects and academic committees.
