Franci Crepeau-Hobson, PhD, is a Professor of School Psychology and Program Director of the School Psychology Program in the School of Education & Human Development at the University of Colorado Denver. A Denver native, she earned her PhD in School Psychology from the University of Northern Colorado in 1996, MA in Counseling and Psychometrics from the University of Colorado Denver in 1991, and BA in Psychology from Metropolitan State College of Denver in 1985. Prior to academia, she worked as a school psychologist in Denver Public Schools from 1996 to 1997 and Englewood School District from 1997 to 2000. She joined CU Denver in 2006 as Assistant Professor and Program Director, leading the development of the PsyD program in School Psychology and its accreditation efforts. She progressed to Associate Professor in 2013 and was promoted to Full Professor in 2023. Earlier, she held positions as Assistant Professor at the University of Northern Colorado.
Crepeau-Hobson's research focuses on school safety, including youth suicide prevention, crisis response and intervention, school violence prevention, and psychological assessment. Notable publications include "Health service psychology education and training in the time of COVID-19: Challenges and opportunities" (2020, cited by 166), "Identification of gifted students with learning disabilities in a Response-to-Intervention era" (2011, cited by 141), "School psychology unified antiracism statement and call to action" (2020, cited by 111), "A coordinated mental health crisis response: Lessons learned from three Colorado school shootings" (2012, cited by 92), and "Implementation of PREPaRE by Multidisciplinary School Safety and Crisis Response Teams: A Qualitative Investigation" (2025). She has earned awards such as Fellow status from the American Psychological Association (effective 2026), Award for Excellence from the National Association of School Psychologists Crisis Management/Grief Support Interest Group (2018), Excellence in Teaching from the School of Education & Human Development (2018 and 2013), and Distinguished Service Award from the Second Wind Fund Suicide Prevention Program (2016). She serves as Co-Chair of the NASP School Safety and Crisis Response Committee, Vice President for Education, Training, & Scientific Affairs of APA Division 16, and Treasurer of the Council of Directors of School Psychology Programs. Additionally, she participates in national and state crisis response teams and consults with schools and districts on crisis response and suicide prevention.
