About Frank

Associate Professor Frank Beard is a public health physician with extensive experience in immunisation and vaccine preventable diseases. He graduated in medicine from the University of Auckland and worked as a general practitioner in Sydney for 15 years before undertaking specialty training in public health medicine. He became a Fellow of the Australasian Faculty of Public Health Medicine in 2004 and subsequently worked for eight years in the Communicable Diseases Unit in Queensland. Beard holds degrees including MBChB, BA, MPH, MHA, and Grad Dip App Epi. He heads the surveillance, coverage, evaluation and social science team at the National Centre for Immunisation Research and Surveillance (NCIRS) and holds a conjoint academic appointment as Associate Professor in the University of Sydney School of Public Health.

His research focuses on immunisation program evaluation, epidemiology, and policy related to vaccine preventable diseases. Beard has contributed to numerous publications in these areas, with his work cited extensively on academic platforms. He has held various roles in communicable disease control and continues to influence public health practice through his leadership at NCIRS and academic contributions at the University of Sydney.
