Rate My Professor George Glauberman

Glauberman has authored over 70 publications, with key works such as "Fixed points in groups with operator groups" (Mathematische Zeitschrift, 1964), "On loops of odd order" (Journal of Algebra, 1964), "A characterization of the Suzuki groups" (Illinois Journal of Mathematics, 1968), "Weakly closed direct factors of Sylow subgroups" with J. G. Thompson (Pacific Journal of Mathematics, 1968), "Factorizations in local subgroups of finite groups" (American Mathematical Society Regional Conference Series in Mathematics No. 33, 1977), "Large abelian subgroups of finite p-groups" (Journal of Algebra, 1998), "Centrally large subgroups of finite p-groups" (Journal of Algebra, 2006), and "A direct product decomposition of the center of a Sylow subgroup" (in preparation with Justin Lynd). He co-edited Proceedings of the Conference on Finite Groups (Academic Press, 1976). He presented an invited lecture at the International Congress of Mathematicians in Nice in 1970 and was elected a Fellow of the American Mathematical Society in 2012. Glauberman supervised 23 Ph.D. students in Mathematics at the University of Chicago from 1969 to 2013, including Ahmad Chalabi (1969) and Peter Landrock (1974). His contributions have advanced the classification and analysis of finite groups.
