About Georgina

Dr Georgina Clutterbuck is a Lecturer in the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences within the Faculty of Health and Behavioural Sciences at the University of Queensland. She holds a Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Honours) and a Doctor of Philosophy in Physiotherapy, both from the University of Queensland. With clinical experience in government, not-for-profit sectors, and private practice, she integrates real-world expertise into her teaching to equip students with pragmatic approaches to supporting children with disabilities in physical recreation and sport.

Clutterbuck's research centers on enhancing sports participation for children with disabilities through practitioner-led, peer-group interventions. She developed the Sports Stars intervention, rigorously evaluated in a Queensland-wide randomized controlled trial with qualitative follow-up, demonstrating positive outcomes presented at conferences across North America, Europe, and Australasia. The program has been implemented by trained clinicians in metropolitan and rural areas of Queensland, New South Wales, Tasmania, and Western Australia, as well as adapted for Brazil. Ongoing studies assess its effectiveness in diverse cultural contexts and for conditions like Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis and hypermobility. Funding includes the Physiotherapy Research Foundation grant for Sports Stars JIA (2023–2024), Health Translation Queensland for dance-for-health interventions (2023–2026), and U21 Health Sciences Group International Projects Fund for Sports Stars CONNECT (2025–2026). Notable publications encompass 'It takes a ‘spark’. Exploring parent perception of long-term sports participation after a practitioner-led, peer-group sports intervention for ambulant, school-aged children with cerebral palsy' (JSAMS Plus, 2025), 'Assessment of sport and physical recreation participation for children and youth with disabilities: a systematic review' (International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, 2025), 'Modified sports interventions for children and adolescents with disabilities: A scoping review' (Developmental Medicine and Child Neurology, 2024), 'Physical literacy for children with disabilities' (The Palgrave Encyclopedia of Disability, 2025), and 'Using Online Survey Tools to Improve Access to International Experts: The ‘E-Delphi’' (The Future of Qualitative Research in Healthcare, 2024). She supervises PhD students on projects addressing sports priorities, swimming pathways, and inclusive activities for youth with disabilities, and serves as a media expert on cerebral palsy, parasport, and physical literacy.
