Giovanni M. Pauletti, MPharm, PhD, serves as Dean of Graduate Studies and Research and Professor of Biopharmaceutics & Pharmacokinetics at St. Louis College of Pharmacy, University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in St. Louis. He earned a Master of Pharmacy and a Doctor of Philosophy in Biopharmaceutics & Pharmacokinetics from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich. Pauletti joined the institution in 2019 as the Gustavus and Henry Pfeiffer Professor of Pharmacy and Chair of the Department of Pharmaceutical and Administrative Sciences, becoming the Founding Dean of the College of Graduate Studies in 2021. Previously, he held faculty positions at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center for over 20 years, progressing from Assistant Professor (1998–2004) to Associate Professor (2004–2019) and Director of the Graduate Program in Pharmaceutical Sciences (2011–2016). His earlier role was as Assistant Professor at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (1997–1998).
Pauletti leads an interdisciplinary translational research program focused on enhancing the safety and efficacy of drugs and medical devices, with emphasis on drug delivery technologies for women’s health and cancer therapy, including nanopharmaceutics. In collaboration with academic and commercial partners, he has facilitated preclinical and clinical development of relevant innovations. He has produced more than 180 scientific papers and abstracts, one GenBank entry, and is an inventor on eight U.S. patents. Notable publications include “In Vitro Oral Cavity Permeability Assessment to Enable Simulation of Drug Absorption” (2025), “Skin-Compatible Carbopol Electrospun Fiber Membranes with pH-Dependent Rheological Properties for Biomedical Applications” (2025), “Design and Refinement of a Faculty Workload Estimator” (2024), and “Pediatric oral extemporaneous preparations and practices: International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) global study” (2024). Recognized as a Fellow in 2023, Pauletti holds prominent international roles such as Chair of the Board of Pharmaceutical Sciences of the International Pharmaceutical Federation (2024–2028), former Scientific Secretary of FIP (2015–2023), and advisor to the World Health Organization. His projects include “SMART Polymer Fibers For Tampon-Like Nonsteroidal Contraceptive Devices” (2021–2024) and “WHO Essential Medicines List Biowaiver Classification” (2019–2023).
