Glenn Ashkanazi, Ph.D., serves as a clinical associate professor and medical/health area head in the Department of Clinical and Health Psychology within the University of Florida's College of Public Health and Health Professions. For more than 16 years, he has directed the Psychology Clinic, where he has driven substantial growth by doubling patient visits and achieving over $2 million in revenues in 2016. His leadership has introduced new treatment models to enhance access to psychological services, facilitated the transition to an electronic health records system, and fostered a training environment renowned for its professionalism, compassion, and humor. These efforts support advanced PhD-level graduate students, predoctoral interns, and postdoctoral trainees in delivering supervised clinical care at UF Health Psychology Specialties.
Ashkanazi supervises the internship rotation focused on Assessment of Solid Organ Transplantation for lung, heart/LVAD, kidney, and liver candidates. Interns under his guidance conduct semi-structured interviews with adults facing disorders requiring transplantation for survival or improved quality of life, evaluating psychosocial factors such as psychopathology, adherence and compliance, substance abuse history, coping skills, support systems, quality of life, and risk-benefit analyses. Psychological testing incorporates instruments including the Millon Behavioral Medicine Diagnostic, SF-36 Health Survey, and Beck Depression Inventory, with opportunities to present findings at weekly Medical Review Board meetings, attend grand rounds, engage in quality improvement projects, facilitate psychoeducational and support groups, conduct research, and contribute to program development. He teaches undergraduate and graduate courses such as CLP4302: Introduction to Clinical Psychology and CLP7317: Advanced Health Psychology and Behavioral Medicine. In recognition of his exemplary contributions, Ashkanazi received the 2017 University of Florida Superior Accomplishment Award in the Health Science Center division.
