About Gosia

Gosia Klatt is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Education at the University of Melbourne, specifically within the Melbourne Graduate School of Education, a position she has held since October 2011. She holds a PhD and graduated with a political science degree in European Studies. Her research spans a broad spectrum of topics in education policy, with a primary interest in vocational education. Key areas of focus include Europeanization and system-level reforms in education, EU policies, Australian adult and vocational education, federalism, lifelong learning, and transformations of post-communist education systems, particularly in Poland. She examines influences on adult education markets, youth transitions, school partnerships with business for vocational programs, and media use of data like PIAAC in public debates on adult learning.

Among her major publications is the co-authored book Europe’s Lifelong Learning Markets, Governance and Policy: Using an Instruments Approach (Palgrave Macmillan, 2020) with Marcella Milana and S. Vatrella. Recent articles include 'Pedagogy as a political action – discussing controversial issues in Polish schools' (2024), 'Resisting Europeanisation: Poland’s education policy and its impact on the European Education Area' (2023), 'Governing Adult Learning Through Influencing Public Debate: How the Media Use PIAAC Data in Denmark, Italy and the United Kingdom' (2023), 'Towards a network governance of European lifelong learning: a structural analysis of Commission expert groups' (2023), and 'Navigating the matrix: career development and the responsibilisation of employability in Australia' (2022). She leads the Jean Monnet Module 'Education Policy in Practice (EPP) – European education policy and national systems,' co-funded by the Erasmus+ programme (2020-2023), and was Lead Chief Investigator for the Melbourne Graduate School of Education Seeding Grant. Klatt serves as Subject Coordinator for education policy courses and holds leadership roles such as committee member and president of the European Studies Association Australia and New Zealand (ESAANZ).
