Professor Goutam Kumar Debnath is a Professor in the Department of Dairy and Poultry Science, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, at Chattogram Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (CVASU). He serves as the Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, appointed as the 8th Dean effective from February 26, 2021. In this leadership role, he oversees the operations of CVASU's oldest faculty, which provides a 5-year Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree program with a subsequent 1-year internship, as well as postgraduate MS, MPhil, and PhD programs across nine departments, including Dairy and Poultry Science. The faculty employs problem-based learning methodologies and facilitates international student exchanges for internships in institutions in the USA, Malaysia, Thailand, and India. Prof. Debnath's deanship focuses on advancing veterinary education to meet World Organization for Animal Health standards, conducting research on herd health, public health, food safety, and animal production, and providing diagnostic services through faculty laboratories, the Poultry Research and Training Center, and the Teaching Veterinary Hospital.
Prof. Debnath has contributed to scholarly work in dairy science through co-authorship of peer-reviewed articles addressing key issues in milk quality, dairy nutrition, and product safety. His publications include 'Prevalence of Antibiotic Residues and Associated Risk Factors in Milk in Chittagong, Bangladesh' (2020), co-authored with Md Saiful Bari and others; 'Formulation of total mixed ration (TMR) for commercial dairy farms' published in the Bangladesh Journal of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (2023); 'Performance of Dairy Cows Fed Diet Supplemented with Cattle Biscuit' (2023); 'Prevalence of Aflatoxin M1 (AFM1) in Fresh Cow Milk from Selected Areas of Bangladesh' (2023); and 'Assessment of the quality of different brands of ghee available in Bangladesh' (2025). These works examine antibiotic residues, toxin contamination, feed optimization for dairy cows, and quality evaluation of dairy products. The Department of Dairy and Poultry Science, where he holds his professorship, was established in 1996 and supports teaching, research, and extension activities in dairy and poultry production, quality control of milk, meat, and egg products, and farm management strategies.
