Professor Govind Sharan Gupta serves as Professor in the Department of Materials Engineering at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. He is also Director of RESCONS Solutions Private Limited. His academic work centers on process metallurgy with emphasis on iron and steelmaking and process modelling. Gupta has received the Metallurgist of the Year award in 2005 from the Ministry of Steel, Government of India. He was elected Fellow of the Indian Institute of Metals in 2020. He held the JSPS Invitation Fellowship at Tohoku University, Japan, in 2007. Additional honors include serving as Chairman of NAAC at IISc in 2023, Guest Editor of Transactions of the Indian Institute of Metals in 2020, and Chairman of the Official Language Unit at IISc from 2010 to 2016. He has acted as visiting professor at the University of Queensland, Australia, in 2004 and 2016, Tohoku University in 2011, AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow in 2012, and the State University of Campinas, Brazil, in 2007. Gupta has organized GIAN courses with international collaborators and offered an NPTEL course on Introduction to Ironmaking during 2017-18. He is a member of the editorial board of the International Journal of Engineering Systems Modelling and Simulation and has served on advisory and expert committees including the National Board of Accreditation and UGC committees. His research contributions include technologies for silicon carbide production with significantly improved efficiency and software for controlling gas carburizing processes. He maintains active collaborations with industry and research organizations on sustainable metallurgy and related process innovations.
