About Greta

Greta Skrupskelyte is a Post-doc Researcher in the Alcolea Group at the Cambridge Stem Cell Institute, University of Cambridge. She is a biomedical scientist by training, having earned a B.Sc. from The University of Warwick in 2012 and a Ph.D. in Oncology from The University of Cambridge in 2016. Before joining the Alcolea Lab in 2017, she worked in the Jones Group, where she investigated polyclonality in epithelial cancers using intelligent sample isolation design and various next-generation sequencing techniques.

At the Alcolea Lab, Skrupskelyte employs the mouse oesophagus as a model system to study the basic rules underlying epithelial cancer formation, with the overarching goal of reducing the risk of developing related pathologies. Her research utilizes approaches including in vivo lineage tracing, deep tissue clearing and whole-mount imaging, transcriptional profiling, and 3D organotypic culturing systems. She is a lead author on the 2026 Nature paper titled 'Precancerous niche remodelling dictates nascent tumour persistence.' Skrupskelyte has received a Primer Award and contributes to the lab by training multiple newcomers and supervising students.
