Prior to her current appointment, Gurinder Kaur Walia held the position of Principal and Professor at the Institute of Nursing Education, Guru Teg Bahadur Sahib (C) Hospital, Ludhiana, Punjab, where she advanced nursing education and clinical training. Her academic contributions include research focused on improving patient care among the geriatric population. A notable publication is her lead-authored paper titled 'A Study to assess the effect of Structured Teaching Programme on Knowledge Regarding Self Care Management of Osteoarthritis among Geriatric Population,' published in the International Journal of Nursing Education (July-September 2015, Volume 7, Issue 3, pages referenced in contents as 168, DOI: 10.5958/0974-9357.2015.00159.2). Co-authored with Poonam Sharma and Manpreet Kaur, the quasi-experimental, non-equivalent control group study involved 60 urban geriatric participants in Ludhiana. Utilizing a self-structured questionnaire, the research revealed below-average pre-test knowledge levels, which significantly improved to good levels post-intervention (p<0.01), demonstrating the effectiveness of the structured teaching programme. Significant associations were noted with demographics such as family income in the control group and age, income, and dietary patterns in the experimental group's pre-test knowledge. Gurinder Kaur Walia has also engaged in professional leadership as Vice President of the Trained Nurses Association of India (TNAI), Punjab State, and has been invited as a guest speaker at nursing events, including those organized by Shaheed Kartar Singh Sarabha College of Nursing.
