Guy Bate is a Professional Teaching Fellow in Strategy and Innovation at the University of Auckland Business School. He serves as Thematic Lead in Artificial Intelligence and Director of the Master of Business Development (MBusDev) programme. Bate holds PhD degrees in both Management and Biomedicine. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology in the UK (FRSB) and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Prior to his academic roles, Bate accumulated two decades of international industry experience in health technology, biotechnology, and pharmaceuticals, where he held leadership positions in strategy, business transformation, and new product development. He chairs the AI in Education Technology Stewardship Group for EdTechNZ and is a frequent speaker and workshop facilitator on AI in teaching and learning for academic and practitioner audiences. His research interests include the scholarship of technology enhanced learning, AI in education, and edtech.
