About Haipeng

Professor Haipeng Guo serves as Dean of the School of General Education, Director of the BNBU Boston Center, and Director of the Center for Whitehead Studies at Beijing Normal-Hong Kong Baptist University (BNBU). He earned his PhD in Computing and Information Science from Kansas State University in August 2003. Since October 2005, he has held a faculty position at BNBU, with his main appointment in the School of General Education and a cross appointment in Computer Science and Technology.

His research spans artificial intelligence, Bayesian networks, optimization algorithms and computational complexity, whole-person education, process philosophy, and Confucianism. Notable publications include 'A Bayesian Approach for Automatic Algorithm Selection' (2003), 'GA-Hardness Revisited' (2003), 'Algorithm Selection for Sorting and Probabilistic Reasoning' (2003), 'An ACO Algorithm for the Most Probable Explanation Problem' (2004), 'A machine learning approach to algorithm selection for NP-hard optimization problems: A case study on the MPE problem' (2007), 'Grading Tai Chi Performance in Competition with RGBD Sensors' (2015), and 'SEE_ME: Software Engineering Education Methodology Exploration' (2015). He co-authored 'Introduction to Bayesian Networks' with Nevin Zhang, published by The Science Press, Beijing, in 2006. Guo serves on the international editorial board for Springer's Chinese Culture book series. He has delivered keynote addresses, including at the 2025 Asian Association of Liberal Arts Universities Annual Presidents' Forum, and organized events on ecological civilization, higher education, and Whitehead's process philosophy.
