About Hak-Seon

Hak-Seon Kim is a Professor in the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management at Kyungsung University, where he also serves as Head of the Foodservice Management Major, Chairman of the School of Global Studies, Dean of International Affairs, and Dean of Global College. He earned his Ph.D. from Texas Tech University, along with a Master of Arts and Bachelor of Arts from Seoul National University. Kim began his academic career at Kyungsung University in 2011, following positions as a Research Professor at Florida State University, Graduate Assistant at Texas Tech University, and staff at Sooyang Foodservice Co., Ltd. in Korea. He previously held the role of Vice Dean of External Affairs from 2018 to 2020 and has been Dean of International Affairs since the fall semester of 2020. As Director of the Wellness and Tourism Big Data Research Institute and the Global Migrant Research Center, Kim has led governmental research projects from 2016 to 2022. His research interests encompass hospitality service management, consumer behavior, service marketing, food tourism, and tourism big data analysis. Kim founded the Wellness and Tourism Big Data Research Institute and established an English track for the hospitality and tourism management program in 2017, contributing significantly to the university's internationalization infrastructure. He teaches courses such as Service Management, Hospitality Big Data Analysis, Service Marketing, and Big Data Analytics.

Kim has made notable editorial contributions as Editor-in-Chief of Industrial Innovation Research (KCI) and former Editor-in-Chief of Culinary Science and Hospitality Research (KCI). His research team has won numerous awards at domestic and international academic conferences. Since 2013, he has consistently received awards for excellence in education and research, and he is listed in Marquis Who’s Who in the World (USA) and the International Biographical Centre (IBC, U.K.). Kim co-authored the book Global Service Management: Principles and Practices and has published extensively in areas like foodservice trends, customer satisfaction in restaurants, and semantic network analysis in hospitality, including works such as a 2017 paper in Culinary Science and Hospitality Research with 89 citations. His efforts have advanced big data applications in tourism and hospitality fields.
