Dr Hamed Jafarzadeh is a Senior Lecturer in Business Analytics at the Department of Actuarial Studies and Business Analytics, Macquarie Business School, Macquarie University. He earned a Bachelor of Industrial Engineering from Amirkabir University of Technology, a Master of IT Management from the University of Tehran, and a PhD in Information Systems from the University of New South Wales, Australia. Before entering academia full-time, he gained extensive professional experience in the IT/IS industry spanning over 12 years, including five years as IT Project Manager and BPM Project Manager at the University of Queensland, along with prior roles as business analyst, IT consultant, and others. His research focuses on business analytics emphasizing big data and social analytics, data-driven decision making, systems development with agile approaches, misinformation sharing on social media, and the influence of behavioral traits like IT mindfulness on IT/IS adoption. Dr Jafarzadeh has obtained research grants from the Tokyo Foundation Sasakawa Young Leaders Fellowship Fund, New Zealand Multi Agency Research Network, and Massey University. He holds Fellow status with the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).
Dr Jafarzadeh's scholarly contributions include key publications such as 'A project prioritization approach considering uncertainty, reliability, criteria prioritization, and robustness' (Decision Support Systems, 2022), 'Building social media-based knowledge ecosystems for enhancing business resilience through mass collaboration' (International Journal of Organizational Analysis, 2022), 'Burnout in agile teams: The role of mindful software development' (Information and Software Technology, 2025), and 'Keeping the gates closed: the effect of conflict management styles, anxiety, and technical skills on security noncompliance intention among smartphone users' (Behaviour & Information Technology, 2025). His research has accumulated over 790 citations according to Google Scholar. At Macquarie University, he delivers business analytics courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including BUSA3021 and BUSA8031, drawing on broad teaching expertise in agile project management, database management, decision support systems, system analysis and design, and business process management gained in Australia, New Zealand, and Iran. As team leader, he contributed to a project awarded Highly Commended in the Vice-Chancellor's Award for Teaching Excellence 2023. He also serves on the Early Career Editorial Board of The Journal of Strategic Information Systems.
