About Haoxiang

Haoxiang Wu is an Assistant Professor (Lecturer) in Indoor and Environmental Mycology at the Magan Centre of Applied Mycology (MCAM) at Cranfield University, where he leads the Indoor and Environmental Mycology Research Group. He holds a PhD in Indoor Mycology and previously served as a Lecturer in the Department of Biology at Hong Kong Baptist University from 2020 to 2025. Wu possesses extensive research experience and expertise in mycology and aerobiology, with a focus on how indoor fungi respond to dynamic environmental conditions such as transient moisture and the development of strategies to prevent fungal growth in indoor environments. His work also examines aerobiology, including mechanisms regulating airborne microorganisms' responses to temperature and relative humidity, as well as synergistic disinfection approaches for airborne microbes using technologies like far-UVC and negative air ions. Wu investigates key questions such as the mechanisms regulating indoor mould responses to wet-dry cycles and the airborne survival of microbes under varying conditions.

Haoxiang Wu has published over 10 papers in international peer-reviewed journals, with approximately 70 percent appearing in top-tier outlets. Notable publications include Synergistic Disinfection by 222 nm Far-UVC and Negative Air Ions of Airborne Bacteria and the Induced Oxidative Stress Responses: A Bioaerosol Chamber Study (2024), Synergistic disinfection of aerosolized bacteria and bacteriophage by far-UVC (222-nm) and negative air ions (2023), and Mechanisms of indoor mold survival under moisture dynamics, a special water treatment approach within the indoor context (2022). He serves as an Editorial Board Member, Guest Editor, and Reviewer for several reputable journals. Wu contributes to science communication through television programmes and media interviews and is the Programme Lead of the Indoor Mould Hygiene Training Hub. His teaching portfolio spans microbiology, environmental sciences, and public health.
