Professor Hari Bapuji is a Professor in the Department of Management and Marketing, Faculty of Business and Economics, at the University of Melbourne. He holds a PhD from the University of Western Ontario, Canada. Previously, he was an Associate Professor at the Asper School of Business, University of Manitoba. Bapuji brings over ten years of industry experience in information technology and human resource management, having lived and worked in Australia, Canada, India, and Singapore. His research and teaching broadly cover strategic management and international business, with current emphasis on economic inequality and its reciprocal effects on organizations, global product safety, and organizational learning.
Bapuji's contributions have shaped discussions in management scholarship. Notable publications include 'Organizations and societal economic inequality: A review and way forward' (Academy of Management Annals, 2020), 'How economic inequality affects organizations' (Human Relations, 2015), 'What global managers should know about caste' (MIT Sloan Management Review, 2023), and 'An Integrative Review of Management Research on Caste' (Academy of Management Annals, 2023). He has published in leading outlets such as Harvard Business Review, Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of Management, Journal of Management Studies, Journal of Operations Management, and Organization Studies. As co-editor-in-chief of Business & Society, he advances research on business-society intersections. His work is cited over 7,700 times on Google Scholar. Awards include the 2024 Australian Business Deans Council Network Award for Innovation and Engagement in Scholarly Research (with Sneha Chrispal) and the Journal of International Business Studies Decade Award (2023, with Gokhan Ertug and Jason D. Shaw). Bapuji co-founded Action to Improve Representation to enhance marginalized group presence in Indian management academia and has authored teaching cases utilized by tens of thousands of students globally.
